Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Ade, founder of My L’ewa Skin.
Growing up in Nigeria, skincare wasn’t about chasing trends or covering imperfections. It was about caring for your skin with ingredients passed down through generations. I watched natural butters, oils, and African black soap become part of everyday life, not because they were fashionable, but because they worked.
Years later, after becoming a wife and a mother of four, and leaving my corporate job, I found myself searching for skincare that was truly gentle, effective, and made with integrity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, that search became deeply personal. One of my sons struggled with extremely dry, sensitive skin, and many products either irritated his skin or contained ingredients I wasn’t comfortable using.
So I went back to what I knew.
I returned to the traditional ingredients I had trusted growing up and began carefully formulating products in my own kitchen. I wasn’t trying to start a business, I was only trying to help my child.
After countless hours of research, testing, and refining, I created a rich, waterless body balm that finally gave his skin the nourishment it needed. Seeing the difference inspired me to keep going.
Soon after, my three sons began asking for something to help their constantly dry, cracked lips. I refused to settle for “good enough.” It took 27 formulations before I created the lip balm that met my standards. Today, our Àṣẹ Lip Balm has become one of our signature products because I believe every product should earn its place through care, patience, and purpose.
That same philosophy guides everything we make.
At My L’ewa Skin, every formula is intentionally waterless, allowing each jar and bottle to be filled with nourishing ingredients instead of unnecessary fillers. We proudly formulate our products to be nut-free, making them accessible to more people with ingredient sensitivities while never compromising on quality.
Our African black soap is ethically sourced from artisans in Ikire, Nigeria, honoring generations of craftsmanship while helping support the communities that preserve this tradition. Every ingredient is chosen with intention because I believe skincare should nourish both people and the communities behind it.
The name “L’ewa” is inspired by the Yorùbá word ẹwà, meaning beauty. But to me, beauty is about far more than appearance. It’s about confidence, authenticity, wellness, and embracing who you were created to be.
My mission is simple: to bridge the wisdom of African beauty traditions with modern skincare, creating products that are effective, thoughtfully formulated, and rooted in heritage.
