African Black Soap | My L'ewa Skin
top of page

In a small town called Ikire, Osun state Nigeria, there's a widow know as Iya Ọṣẹ Dudu by her community.  This woman is from whom My L'ewa Skin sources our soap crumples. Crafting them from scratch, she ensures all ingredients used are  nut-free, aligning with our commitment to safety and inclusivity. We use these black soap crumples to formulate our African black soap, a testament to her craftsmanship and dedication.

By supporting Iya Ọṣẹ Dudu's livelihood through fair trade, we've not only provided her with a sustainable income but also collaborated on building a shelter, enabling her to work year-round despite challenges like the rainy season. Our shared goal is to complete this shelter, providing her with a safe and dedicated workspace where she can continue to thrive and support her family.  Through the competitive price we pay, we not only ensure the sustainability of her business but also empower her to send her children to school, fostering a brighter future for her family and community.

I'm am also inspired by Iya Ọṣẹ Dudu's passion for preserving the traditional soap-making techniques passed down through generations in her husband’s family. Her dedication to this craft not only keeps our Yoruba heritage alive but also serves as a reminder of the greatness of the Yoruba people. It's this rich cultural legacy that motivates me to formulate our soap, sharing its unique qualities with the world and honoring the profound contributions of the Yoruba tradition to global culture. We are commitment to empowering Iya Ọṣe Dudu   because when you empower a woman, you uplift an entire community

I love the way the yoruba soap leaves my skin feeling soft and clean. It lathers well and its scent is very subtle.
